The thickest ATF is gonna be an ATF from Redline or Amsoil at about 7-8 cst at 100 deg C The racing ATF's will be on the grabby side much like a type F ATF. I have always thought of MTL as a thick ATF for manual trannys. WebSince differential oils are thicker oils, you should never put them in an engine. On the flip side, engine oils are too thin to lubricate heavy differential gears properly. That is why you don’t use engine oils for lubricating differentials. Keep the two separated and only use them for their respective components and systems.

On most vehicles, 75w-90 is fine; my Silverado spec'ed 75w-80 from the factory, but -90 is much better for a truck that gets used.
